Our region is rich in countryside churches. Most of these were built on private land owned by the faithful themselves.
Since the Sardinian population was historically economically poor, the churches were generally built with simple materials, and their construction often spanned decades. Deep and enduring is the devotion to the patron saints, whose celebrations are renewed each year. These numerous rural churches enrich and define the landscape of the Anglona region.
During this cycling tour, you will admire some of these rural churches. With a bit of luck, you might even take part in traditional festivals held in honor of the patron saints. Most of these events take place in the spring (from April to June) and in the autumn (from September to November).
The structures of these rural churches are made with locally available materials (granite, red sandstone, etc.). The churches are typically rectangular, with a gable and a bell tower, flanked by two small arches or pillars.
During this day, you'll have the opportunity to photograph some of the most beautiful churches in northern Sardinia.
