Excursion La Ciaccia-Littigheddu-Monte Ossoni-La Ciaccia
Difficulty level: medio Length: 30 km Total ascent/discent totale: 831 m Diff. altimetric: 397 m
This tour also combines the sea with the nearby mountains, from where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Gulf of Asinara. Starting from the coast of La Ciaccia, the route begins with a gentle climb at La Muddizza. It then descends through the vast artichoke fields of the Doria Valley.
Next comes a moderate ascent toward Sedini. Before reaching Sedini, at the top of the beautiful climb, you arrive at a plateau dominated by "Sa Punta e Sa Fuscha." Turning right onto a dirt road, you’ll enjoy splendid views over the fields of Valledoria and the sea. After about 15–20 minutes, you’ll rejoin the paved road.
Following the signs to Tergu, you’ll cross a plateau in the locality of Littigheddu, where you’ll admire a wind farm consisting of 36 wind turbines. From here, the sea is also visible.
You then reach the Elephant Rock, famous not only for its distinctive elephant-like shape but also for its archaeological significance, as the same rock contains “Domus de Janas” – mystical Neolithic burial chambers carved into the stone. From here, the route approaches Monte Ossoni, a small volcanic plateau. Once at the summit (340 meters above sea level), you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view over the entire Gulf of Asinara. With favorable weather conditions, you might even catch a glimpse of the Corsican coastline.
The tour ends with a long descent back to our locality, La Ciaccia.
